How to be Cool

untitled

I’m not cool

And neither are you

How do I know?

Because you’re reading this

Which proves you want to be cool

And cool people don’t care if they’re cool

Which is what makes them cool

No, wait

come to think of it

cool people do want to be cool

It’s just that they’ve mastered the art

of not seeming to care

Which makes them cool

Confused?

Me too

Let’s just forget about it

and be uncool together

Wait

That means we don’t care

Which makes us cool!

Oops,

There we go

caring again

  2. This is so true. It’s like, what’s the point of trying anymore? 😂

  3. Love this 🧡

  4. E says:

    😂 Mitch you’re the coolest.

  5. I agree with E! I was never one of the cool kids, but that’s ok, I came to love my little group of outcasts! 🙂

  6. joyroses13 says:

    LOL! 🙂

  7. This is so not cool!? Although, I do wonder what ‘The Fonz’ would think about it.

  8. People are such sheep, but I guess not caring at all is a sign of sociopathy.
But, hey Mitch, you grew up in SoCal. When did you first hear the word “cool?” I first heard it when we moved there from Alabama in 1949. My cousins in L.A. were using “cool” in the sense that a new hit record was cool. It was a synonym for “neat” or it’s derivative; “neat-o” I first heard the term “dude” (formerly a cowboy epithet directed at city-slickers) used to refer to guys in general, not from the surfers but from other cousins who lived in Bell, CA in the 60’s. It was more or less ghetto-slang. I think it took a while for it to work its way to the beach and be adopted by the surfers and hence —to the world. 🙂

    I’m cool, right?!

  15. It’s hard to look cool while laughing historically 😂

  16. Nancy Ruegg says:

I wonder how many words in our English language can have very different meanings, depending on the context? Cool is a perfect example. A cool dude can be indifferent and uncaring, or sublime and appealing. It’s confusing alright.

You may be on to something, Nancy. “Cool” came from the jazz world, I believe, and originally indicated a kind of detached, unruffle-able attitude. Not too far from indifferent and uncaring, after all.

  17. DeniseBalog says:

I think you are one cool guy Mitch. I am daily amazed on how you are able to post everyday with an air of “coolness” each one 😊 Cool

  18. Love this! I wrote a humorous essay once about “not being cool.” I wish I had read this first! 😉
