Thought for the Week
“She couldn’t tolerate lying from anyone, except when absolutely necessary, herself.” ~The Wishing Map
“The truth about lies is that first, it’s to fool others, and later it’s to fool yourself.” ~Mystqx Skye
“You can fool yourself, you know. You’d think it’s impossible, but it turns out it’s the easiest thing of all.” ~Jodi Picoult
“As time moves on the line will blur. It will no longer seem to be the simplicity of good versus evil, but good versus fools who think they are good.” ~Criss Jami
“Lie long enough and eventually you’ll believe yourself.” ~Ahmed Mostafa
“The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. And having no respect, he ceases to love.” ~Fyodor Dostoevsky
“The greatest way to live with honor in this world is to be what we pretend to be.” ~Socrates

It is impossible to live with oneself without the input of other imperfect beings.
Boy do I know this to be true
I have found that habitual liars lie for so long and so good that they lose a grasp of reality. That become a living Hell for them. Joseph- Anthony a son of Jehovah.
Great thought for the week, thanks for sharing

Wise words, dear friend! I appreciate you and your encouragement to all of us! Great quotes and verses, Mitch.
So glad you enjoyed it, Karla.
I love this translation of the Biblical quotation, using the words “laws of freedom.” Surely it is when we all can say that we do what we believe at every opportunity, then we can relieve ourselves of the world wasting obsessions with making sure others do, but no other than they’re supposed to, and leave one another in peace to get on with doing it, each in our own ways!
It’s not so far from us as we think ~ we understand that the need to be useful and worthy very often surpasses all others, if given a healthy opportunity to flower into the doing. It’s when we demand that everyone do exactly as everyone else does, at the same time, in the samr way, dressed and acting just as everyone else does (and more to others’ benefit than their own at that), that we become inwardly resistant to it.
The Tao de Ching tells us that from peace of mind (true rest, or inaction), action naturally arises…
howdy cora, where are you?
It’s no wonder Socrates was such a great philosopher-he was so insightful! 🙂
He was indeed, Nancy.
It’s true how easily self-deception can slip in under the guise of necessity. Sometimes the hardest truths to face are the ones we whisper to ourselves.
Indeed, Hayley.
Wise words and a great reminder of life.
I agree! It’s much easier to lie to ourselves (and believe them) that it is to lie to other people.
Great encouragement, Mitch! The Socrates quote is a favorite.
Amen! Good word!
Thanks, Jack!
