“Complete” vs. “Finished”

A linguistics professor was asked to explain the difference between the words complete and finished.

“Well, when you marry the right woman,” he explained, “you are complete. But, when you marry the wrong woman you are finished. And,” he added ominously, “if the right woman catches you with the wrong woman, you are completely finished.” ~Anonymous (edited by me)

    Excellent. In that case, I am COMPLETE.

    Not to elevate the discussion unnecessarily, but I have sometimes heard Jesus’ last words on the cross rendered as “It is COMPLETE,” rather than “It is FINISHED.”

      Yes. The Greek word can be translated either way. I’ve heard that particular form of the word was stamped on legal documents when a debt was considered paid in full.
