Change Is Inevitable and That’s OK

Change is inevitable. And that's OK.

“The pessimist complains about the wind. The optimist expects it to change. The realist adjusts the sails.” ~William Arthur Ward

Thought for the Week

In 2025, the world changed so much we could hardly recognize it as the one we once knew. But then that’s always the case, even when it doesn’t seem to be. Because change is inevitable. And that’s OK. Like the sea, the world is always becoming what it is.

And so are we. Even during the years we don’t seem to be changing. Sometimes it’s invisible, bubbling beneath the surface where we can’t see it. Nevertheless, it’s always happening. And we can’t stop it, but we can adjust our sails.

Change is inevitable. And that’s OK. Because it’s neither good nor bad. It’s simply a resource. Like clay. And like clay, it can be shaped into something ugly or beautiful. Our job isn’t to stop change, it’s to shape it into something beautiful...

Something better.

  1. Bob Teague says:

Change is inevitable however, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

  2. Caroll says:

What looks like a disruption to God’s Plan is actually God’s Plan. We have to be patient and trust that He is keeping His promise, and ALL things will eventually be worked out for our highest good. Faith is the antidote to fear.

  3. So well stated Mitch!
Food for thought as we start our day.
Thank you for this poyl of wisdom.

    Well said!

I believe as far as the Sovereignty and Providence of God we can’t control change, but certain things personally we can intentionally change or try to change that may never if we do not do anything, in my opinion, great post to ponder as always.

  6. Yes, Mitch. We can’t stop the tide, but we can learn how to sail. And, adjusting our sails might be the most honest work we do.

  7. It’s a minor pet peeve of mine, as people who resist change. Change is inevitable.

I have people on my own family who barely eat anything outside of what their mother cooked them.

So I try to be the change

  8. Thanks for sharing.

  9. Pam Webb says:

The opening quote is a keeper.

I am experiencing the inevitability – and resulting discomfort – of change in my football rooting practices. I can endorse the wisdom of the person who once observed that the only people who really like change are babies with wet diapers.

  11. Pure Glory says:

Mitch, love your perspective on change. It happens to us all and we can make it beautiful. Yes!

  12. The quote by William Arthur Ward is profound. Your thoughts encouraging a positive attitude in regards to change are refreshing. Thanks, Mitch. 🙂

  13. David says:

Change is always inevitable. While I totally support the idea that we should reduce our impact on the planet and live in harmony with the world, not trample all over it, I get tired of hearing conservation groups telling us we should put the world back to how it was at some perfect point in time (like 50 years ago) and never change it. Apart from the fact that the good old days weren’t always so good, we are better off focussing on moving forward and guiding the change. Global warming? According to geological evidence, for the last 10,000 years we have been in an intra-glaciation period – ie a warm period in the middle of an ice-age that will probably come back again. I have stood on a 1000 foot hill in the middle of a valley here in New Zealand and seen the lines gouged on the sides of the valley 1500 feet above me that were created by the last major glacier. Prior to that, there were no ice caps at all. And humanity (and all life) have adapted and thrived though all these changes. We are built to adapt.

    Thank you, Mitch. Amen. 💚❤️🙏🏻

I agree, Mitch, that change is inevitable. It is also necessary to life. But I remember being at a business seminar years ago and the speaker made an equally true statement: Change, for the sake of change, is counterproductive.

  16. Adjusting my sails (Crohn’s Disease)!

  17. SanVercell says:

Perspective is important. Love the post, Mitch. Definitely encouraging.

  18. I was really encouraged by your post Mitch. Set the sails indeed.

  19. Nancy Ruegg says:

In addition to pessimists, optimists, and realists, there’s one more group that often gets overlooked: uptimists. The uptimist looks up toward God, trusting that out of his love, goodness, and wisdom, he will do what is right. In keeping with Ward’s wind-and-sails quote, uptimists accept where and when God makes the wind blow, and seeks his guidance for how best to set the sails. His help is priceless to navigate the significant changes of life!

    Amén 🙏
