I love animals. Not because they’re cute–sometimes they are, sometimes they aren’t. But because there’s something unique about each of them. Animals are as unpredicable as humans. Not just each species, but each individual animal, probably even amoebas. And there’s something miraculous about that. Something I never tire of observing—and participating in, when I can. And I’m pretty sure the Author of life feels the same way.

Simba (my GoldenDoodle) asked me to “love” this post from you. Since he was a very good boy and didn’t beg too much at the Christmas dinner yesterday, I told him I would (although he did sneak in a few pieces of ham and turkey while my attention was elsewhere).
He sends his best.
Merry Christmas!
Thanks, Simba, and dad! And likewise, my friend.

Loved the expression “Author of Life!”
And yes, animals enrich our lives with companionship, innocence, and unconditional love.
🧡
That Gorilla is hilarious, well unless you are the owner of the car. I love the Martin Buber quote “An animal’s eyes have the power to speak a great language.” My dog Rollo very much communicate with his eyes and you can tell what he wants from how he is looking at you.
I don’t doubt it, Thomas.
Awwww!!!
Loved these pics, especially the bird on the toadstool with a curious squirrel. The Anatole France quote rings true. Thanks, Mitch! 🙂
My pleasure, Nancy!
I also love animals and communicating with them. Great photos. I like and agree with the quotes. Great post, Mitch.
Thank you, Mags. Blessings.
Blessings to you Mitch.
all of these pics are great!
True.
Amazing pix, Mitch!
I once trained a fish named Freddy. If only that fish could talk…lol :-). As you have said I quote, “Anyone can learn how to communicate with animals if they are open to the process and willing to practice.” ~Karen A Anderson
Wonderful selection, Mitch.
Each captures a celebration of life!
“Love the animals, love the plants, love everything. If you love everything, you will perceive the divine mystery in things.” ~Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Beautiful, amazing pics… But I haven’t been receiving your posts on a regular basis for some reason. WordPress is screwing up again, probably.
Sadly, it happens all the time, Mike. WordPress auto-unsubscribes a lot of people too.
Loving animals for their individuality, not their cuteness, feels deeply respectful.
These just make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. The last quote is brilliant.
Love them all, Mitch, but I think MamaLove is my favorite. For some reason, I have a real thing for donkeys and these are particularly cute and cuddly-looking. I also love miniature horses. Wish I could have one of either as a pet, but can’t imagine taking it up and down the elevator and keeping it in my apartment. Maybe I can have them when I get to heaven. I would add a baby goat, too. 🙂
Great post, Mitch, love the pics and the quotes!
They are! Great photos, Mitch.
Glad you like them, Jennie! I do enjoy curating thematic image galleries.
And you do it so well!
Mitch, your love for animals shines through every line of this post. I adore how you notice their individuality — the tiny quirks, the moods, the little mysteries they carry.
Sometimes I catch myself wondering what their first words to us would be if they could speak…
I know just what you mean, Anna.
I always love your animal photos, but I hope I never see a gorilla getting into my car. Imagine the mess! I’d have to call a detailer again! 😮
