A Weekend Wish That Always Comes True

Dandelion4It’s Saturday and the weeds await. My lawn is festooned with them, particularly the ever-present dandelionous paininthebuttous. So I begin my pre-lawncare procedure by musing about dandelions: “Wishes are iffy things,” I think, “but there’s one wish dandelions can actually grant.”

Really! Try it and you’ll see. Say,

“I wish there were more dandelions!”

And then blow on it. And pretty soon your wish will come true!

    It’s always been a question when I mow the lawns: are dandelions weeds or wish generators? Sometimes I think I should stop mowing the lawn and just have a field of dandelions.

    Any klutz can grow dandelions.  Even me!  (Ubiquity and uniformity gave a beautiful flower a bad rep.)  I do pull weeds; I do not pull dandelions.  On the contrary, I have posted prose and poetry in their praise.  They may be more appreciative of the fact that I postpone the first mowing in spring to give the dandelions and wild violets in my lawn a chance to set seed.
