Every day in May is a holiday. Except one! There are serious days like National Day of Prayer and Memorial Day. There are the things-to-do days, like Free Comic Book Day (5/7), Eat What you Want Day (5/11), Red Nose Day (5/23), and National Burger Day (5/28). And then there are the biggies:
May Day, 5/1 – In which we celebrate by dancing lustfully around a pole in our front yards, and then going down in flames, shouting, “May Day! May Day! Workers of the world unite!”
Star Wars Day, 5/4 – In which we attach cinnamon buns to the sides of our heads, wave around cardboard rolls, making “Pew! Pew!” noises, and talk with a lisp (“May the fourth be with you!”).
Mother’s Day – In which we celebrate the person who first suckled us, and then spent the next five years shouting, “Don’t put that in your mouth!”
Cinco de Mayo, 5/5 – In which people in Atlantic City celebrate the way they think Mexicans do, and Mexicans smack their heads, muttering, “¡Ay, caramba! What are those loco Norteamericanos up to now?”
And finally, the missing holiday: Cumpleaños de Mitcho, 5/12! — In which I stealthily and cleverly inform you in pseudo-Spanish that today is, in fact, my birthday!
But seriously, whatever it is you celebrate, do it con gusto, mis amigos…
Because every day is a gift!

Feliz Cumplaños, amigo! May 18 is Cumpleaños de Esteban Day!
Gracias, Esteban!
Happy Birthday!
Thanks, Martha!
A very important day indeed. I thank God for your birthday. Your talent has been blessed by him and you are a beacon for many. Have a wonderful day!
Aw, bless you for your kind and encouraging words, Kathy!
Sure hope you’ll figure out how to celebrate just that!
Thanks, Joy!
LOL, yes, Mitch, I was informed by a Facebook notification that today was your birthday. (Facebook has not yet figured out that I am ignoring it for at least 40 days.)
I’m sure as a theater person you remember the Broadway Musical, “Mame.” I was in the chorus for that show years ago, and I remember the opening song – “It’s Today!” where Auntie Mame was telling everyone at her party that what they were celebrating was “today” – which we can (and should) celebrate ANY day. 🙂
I do remember that show, Annie, and I agree. L’chaim!
Happy Birthday to You

Gracias, Nancy. For some reason, I was expecting the second sentence to end with “baby”?

Thanks, Annie!
what do you have for 5/9, 5/13, 5/48, & 5/53?
A belated Happy Birthday. This will be easy to remember since it is the same day as my MIL’s.
Thank you. “MIL”?
Happy birthday Mitch. You share it my first great-granddaughter, who is now all of one day old.
How absolutely lovely, Gwendoline! Bless her little heart! Welcome to the world, little one! 💕
Thank you so much Nancy. Beautiful words indeed.
I’m honored, Gwen. What’s her name?
Her name is Ellenore, Mitch. We haven’t seen her in the flesh yet, as mum is still a little knocked around from a prolonged labour. But from the photos, she is a ‘bonny lass’ to coin an old time phrase. Weighed in just over 8lb. Might also be a rangga. Not sure if you use that expression. Here it’s slang for a redhead and derives from the auburn-haired primate Orang-Utan. (And as they grow up, the boys are often nick-named ‘Blue’.) But it’s all in good fun, not meant to be offensive.
Aww, love red hair.
Buon compleanno, Mitch, as we say in Italiano. Hope your day was fantastico! 🥳
Grazie, Nancy!
Prego!
Happy Birthday!
Thank you, Dana!
Felix complements, or however happy birthday is said in español.
That’ll do. Thanks, Rocky!
Happy belated birthday! Tomorrow is “Dance Like a Chicken Day.” There’s a day worth celebrating!
Um, good to know. ;>) Thanks, Michael!
A very happy belated birthday wish extended your way – wrapped with hugs and blessings for a joyous (additional) year of “life” to celebrate!
Thank you, Dawn!
Oh, happy belated birthday!! All God’s best to you!! And many happy, healthy more!!
Thank you, Peach!
Charlee: “Wait, what? Cats with lightsabers?”
Chaplin: “Why don’t WE have lightsabers?”
Both: “DAAAAAADAAAAA! We want lightsabers!”
Java Bean: “I’ve got a bad feeling about this …”
Oh, I missed your birthday,
Happy birthday, Mitch!!!
May GOD bless your new age and may HE grant you all your hearts’ desires and answer all your prayers!!!
Sadly also missed “eat what you want day”… maybe next year… 🙂
;>) Thanks, Eva!
It’s a bit late in the day, but still the day is not quite over, so a very happy birthday, Mitch! Hope it was all you expected and more and that the coming year will be the best ever. God bless.
Thank you, Diane, and God bless you, as well!
