“My whiskers!” said Reggie McMouse. “What a catastrophe that nearly was!”

And then, after cleverly outwitting the dangerous intruder, Reggie returned to his favorite chair. He was particularly pleased with his posh new rug.

Tom and Jerry never ended this way!

  2. murisopsis says:

So nice to see that the mouse wins one!!

  3. Had to laugh even though I enjoy cats (and once a mouse bit me–well, I’d just caught him in the granary and was climbing down a ladder to go show family–haven’t tried to catch once since)

  4. Love it, Mitch! It reminds me of the “Church mice” series of books (by Graham Oakley) that I used to read to my kids. I’d always laugh harder than the kids. If you’ve never read the Church Mice books, check them out. Wonderful, dry English humor.

Sounds right up my alley, Annie!

    • The Church Mice books were my kids’ favorites when they were little. Unfortunately, most of the titles are out of print, and used copies are selling for a king’s ransom. I’ve been trying to collect a set for my grandson, and when I find a used copy in non-disastrous condition selling for less than about forty bucks, I pounce on it. Some are not available for less than a hundred dollars in any condition. I wish some publisher would bring them back.

  5. Oh, Reggie, Reggie, Reggie . . .

    Haha.

  7. Hi Mitch! Thanks for the amusing picture prompt. Is it worth the 60 words of my short story?

Once upon a time… while the mouse perused the evening newspaper, his mind flashed back to that bygone, cat catching safari; to the surprise, welcome home party thrown by his rathskeller drinking / hunting buddies. While the catskin rug wowed ‘em, he chuckled as he wisecracked, “If you think that’s big, ya should’ve seen the one that got away!” The End

Who says you can’t write a story in 100 words or less!😊❤

  9. revruss1220 says:

Reggie really packs a punch, doesn’t he!

  10. Flash Fiction at its best. Pity the cat was not as quick 🙂

  11. KT Workman says:

I’m a cat lover, but your tale was nevertheless funny. 😊

  12. pastorpete51 says:

I love it Mitch, but I am afraid you may lose a few cat lovers on this one! Got to show my wife!! (Not a cat woman!)

  13. bersinink says:

Aww… I love cats as well, and am a proud cat mom. But your story was really cute!
