Ever Green

A companion piece to The Ugly Time

Some lives are leafy limbs

compelling eyes to gaze at them

to acknowledge their convulsive beauty

Naïve in their baseless joy

they reign

a scant and unremembered season

then die

having never truly lived

Some lives are barren limbs

pushing eyes beyond themselves

framing the eternal beauty

in keen, uncanny joy

to a reign

that never ends

They die

and yet they live forever

  2. And the life of the barren limbs has held onto deep joy despite the lack of worldly beauty. Beauty is void without substance. Thought provoking.

Love how you can be humorous and silly one post and then deeply thoughtful and wise another. Thank you this time for giving me another reason to appreciate (and learn from) the bare branches of winter!

  8. Bare branches against a blue winter sky always put me in mind of antique Lace.
