Ugly? Or Uniquely Beautiful?

“He’s not ugly, you’re just looking with ugly eyes,” said the 4 1/2-year-old daughter of a friend. And I’ve never forgotten that sagely observation. After all, variety really is the spice of life. And in the world’s pantry the spice of life shelf goes on forever. So… Ugly? Or uniquely beautiful? See for yourself.

“If all we had were roses, would the thorns then be beautiful?” ~Kamand Kojouri

“Lady Astor: “Sir. Winston, you are a drunk!” Winston Churchill: “And you, madam, are ugly. But I shall be sober in the morning.” (Reported exchange with Winston Churchill)

Note: All of the humans in this gallery are sought-after models — not despite, but because of their unique birth conditions.

I especially like the quote from Kim Namjoon.

  4. Love the smiling quote with which I agree wholeheartedly.

  5. Bronlima says:

It is interesting to see how “beauty” is perceived in different cultures as well as throughout the ages.

  6. “He’s not ugly, you’re just looking with ugly eyes,” said the 4 1/2-year-old daughter of a friend. Absolutely! Out of the mouths of babes . . .

  7. Mokokoma Mokhonoana’s quote speaks volumes and so so the images. Thanks, Mitch. 🙂

  9. I echo Sheree’s words–kids often have amazing wisdom.

  10. K.L. Hale says:

Beautiful, Mitch! If we could all see with “beautiful” eyes! ❤️🙏

  11. C.A. Post says:

Well, except for the hairless cat; no matter your eyes, that critter is butt-ugly!😂

  12. Thank you for that thought, Mitch. My husband has had seventeen operations in the past fifteen years to remove cancer from his face and then rebuild his face. Damned stuff kept coming back and they had to keep cutting into him. HIs last two scans have been clear, so here’s hoping . . .
No one could accuse him of being good looking, but to me he is the most beautiful person in the world. We were both left speechless recently when a child in the supermarket said, ‘Daddy, look at that man. He’s ugly!’ His father’s response was, ‘F**k, yes.’ and off they went. 🤷‍♀️

  13. ““He’s not ugly, you’re just looking with ugly eyes,” said the 4 1/2-year-old daughter of a friend.” Wow what a smart kid!

  14. ha! out of the mouths of babes…

  19. Fascinating…

My daughter and I watched “The Queen’s Gambit” last week and were amazed at the actress playing the lead. She has a unique face – she’ll never be mistaken for another actress. At the beginning, with the dorky haircut, she looked downright weird. But by the end of the movie, we could see how breathtakingly gorgeous she was.
As for people I know, it seems they get lovelier or uglier as I get to know them, depending on what I learn about their character.

    These are oddly beautiful.

  21. Children see the world in such a simplistic fashion. I hope we all retain that quality throughout life!

Well according to me beauty is fully based on Point of View. If I love sunset I love it and the same for every scenario which is a good concept of something is beautiful for someone it’s ugly for someone else. It’s a topic that needs to be studied about 🙂‍↕️

  25. Great quotes 🤣😎🙃

  26. Viren says:

Everything in nature is beautiful in its own way. I’m a ten-year-old and my friends include snails, millipedes, lizards, slugs, beetles and other critters.
