Thought for the Week
The problem with people is that they’re just people. And the best way to deal with them is to remember that. If you forgive them for that (and yourself in the bargain), you’ll at least be headed in the right direction. Oh, and one other thing: you’ll need to keep doing it over and over again for the rest of your life. Because people will just be people for as long as you live. And probably even after that.
“I love mankind…it’s people I can’t stand!!” ~Charles M. Schulz
“Crocodiles are easy. They try to kill and eat you. People are harder. Sometimes they pretend to be your friend first.” ~Steve Irwin
“The reason there are so many stupid people is it’s illegal to kill them.” ~John Wayne
“I do not want people to be very agreeable, as it saves me the trouble of liking them.” ~Jane Austen
“The more I learn about people, the more I like my dog.” ~Mark Twain
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” ~Romans 3:23
“Do not be angry that you cannot make others as you wish them to be, since you cannot make yourself as you wish to be.” ~Thomas á Kempis
“People can cry much easier than they can change.” ~James Baldwin
“Maybe ever’body in the whole damn world is scared of each other.” ~John Steinbeck
“Nobody looks like what they really are on the inside. You don’t. I don’t. People are much more complicated than that. It’s true of everybody.” ~Neil Gaiman
“You should never hate anyone, even your worst enemies. Everyone has something good about them. You have to find the redeeming quality and love the person for that.” ~Jeannette Walls
“I think there’s just one kind of folks. Folks.” ~Harper Lee

Love this Mitch. I especially love these quotes. Mark Twains has long been a favorite. The more people I come across, the more I love my dog!!!! Be careful going outside btw. You know the reason! You might run into some people. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 But yes, love ‘em anyway. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
🧡
Amen to the Thomas a Kempis quote! Puts the problem of people in proper perspective. God help us all to treat one another with grace–the way we’d like to be treated.
Exactly, Nancy.
These are excellent quotes. I especially like the Jane Austen, Thomas a Kempis, and Neil Gaiman. And in regard to your opening statement, what is also true is that I am also “just people.” “Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us,” may be the most ignored line in the entire Bible. It is actually the most terrifying, to me. It takes a lot of courage to pray that.
Yep. It’s the only line in the Lord’s Prayer that addresses what God wants us to do!
Fabulous quotes that align with your message. My favorite is the Kempis one. Thanks, Mitch. 🙂
That quote has served me many times as a much-needed bit of humbling, Nancy.
Great point and advice, hard for me to do sometime but it the right way.
May I add a soundtrack to your wonderful quotes? “Everyday People,” by Sly and the Family Stone!
Perfect, Dana❣
Well chosen quotations, Mitch. I particularly liked James Baldwin’s Thank you.
My pleasure, Bob.
Forgiveness, absolutely. However, some people are like uranium, and to stay safe, we’ll still need to limit our exposure.
Very true, Grant.
Love the John Wayne quote. Sometimes it’s tempting to do something illegal!
;>)
John Wayne … you gotta love him. 🙂
Yep, the Duke didn’t beat around the bush.
Love these, Mitch!
🧡
Yeah, I totally get why God flooded the earth to get rid of almost all the people. I don’t know how He has restrained Himself since then. Maybe climate change will be the next way God gets rid of us all. We are an ornery bunch!
Maybe we will all run inside Noah’s ark this time.
We are indeed, Janet.
Mitch, the quotes are amazing. Sometimes they made me chuckle, and then again nodding…
Amen to that, Mitch. That is why I try to spend as much time (never enough) quiet in nature. 😁. At work I am constantly being challenged with the way people act or think.
Thanks, Mitch. I needed to read that.
My pleasure, Andrew.
“Lord, what fools these mortals be” -William Shakespeare (Puck in Midsummer Night’s Dream)
Puck knew whereof he spoke!
My husband calls it stupid human tricks lol
;>)
Very apt quotes! I’ve had a good laugh! 😄
Reminds me of Ralph Waldo Emerson’s quote of every man being his superior as he learns something from him.
Seems we have to make do with people after all. 🤣
So it seems, Heidi. ;>)
“And that’s why I like my dog!” My pugs are in both of my novels!
This is so true—every single word. And the funny thing is, all of these people are in my life right now.😂😂😂
;>)
People are hard
Schulz always had just the right thing to say!
Good reminder. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure, Nila.
That first quote is so me.
It is deceptively humbling to be reminded I am people too.
Me too, Iba.
The more I learn about people, the more I like my dog.” ~Mark Twain
Best one😂😂😂👆
justice of Exist, basic man-His fault ,he is act of wrong .Law of world ,jail,or financial punishment or others. But creator believer , creator law, person of emperor , power and force who regulates world ,all policy maker , heart of environment and foult person both gets his hell ,Hell punishment emperor of the world and fault person finished when they are become man.Man and beast not same.In this world policy maker given blame civilization but fault their beacous they are not but up well civilization properly.Creator or devil who is correct.
There is never a problem with people; it’s just my parents never trained me properly to live with that species.
Raised by wolves, Russell?
YEP
I would disagree with Jeanette Walls, that we have to love our worst enemies because of the redeeming qualities in them. No, we have to love them because Jesus told us to.
Why can’t everyone be perfect……… just like me?
“Do not be angry that you cannot make others as you wish them to be, since you cannot make yourself as you wish to be.” ~Thomas á Kempis
All great quotes – this is my fave of all of them.
