Professor Albert Einstein’s Advice for 2026
Albert Einstein needs no introduction. Not only is he the veritable icon for the word “genius,” he’s also one of the most quoted (and misquoted) people on earth. We’re entering the most rapid and dramatic era of change in human history (AI anyone?). So I was only half-surprised at how applicable Einstein’s words are for the hopeful-but-iffy year ahead.
“In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity”
“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.”
“You never fail until you stop trying.”
“I must be willing to give up what I am in order to become what I will be.”
“The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don’t do anything about it.”
“What a sad era when it is easier to smash an atom than a prejudice.”
“If we knew what it was we were doing, it would not be called ‘research,’ would it?”
“Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.”
“A clever person solves a problem. A wise person avoids it.”
“The measure of intelligence is the ability to change.”
“Once you can accept the universe as matter expanding into nothing that is something, wearing stripes with plaid comes easy.”
“The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion that stands at the cradle of true art and true science.”
“Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.”
“The best way to cheer yourself is to cheer somebody else up.”
“Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.”
“I want to know God’s thoughts – the rest are mere details.”
“There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”

The world will have a generation of idiots… I think he hit the nail on the head there.
I fear you’re right, Lucy.
Thank you, Mitch. Happy New Year! I loved all the quotes, but really smiled at the fashion sense of stripes and plaid. Everything belongs!
;>) And a Happy New Year to you as well, Frank!
He’s been proved right, for sure.

And Happy New Year to you, Terry!
Albert Einstein was full of wisdom. My favorite was: “I want to know God’s thoughts – the rest are mere details.”
Mine too, Hazel.
😊
Wise words for our times. God bless, and happy New Year!
Likewise, Nancy, and good to hear from you❣
It feels quite timely. A lot of these lines hit differently when you read them through the lens of change and uncertainty instead of pure inspiration.
Good point.
Happy new year from Germany!
And Happy New Year back from the U.S., Sophie!
Visionario!
Every time I hear the Man on the Street interviews, I’m pretty sure we’ve lost. Einstein figured it out, too.
Brilliant and timeless advice.
Thank you, Mitch, these are wonderful–and I only recognize a few. MUST copy into quote journal!
🧡
Thanx for the reminder! I want to borrow “Idiocracy” from our library! I have often used your main quote in emails.😉
Yes, the day Einstein feared does seem immanent. Blithely handing human evolution over to technology does seem the epitome of human stupidity; which Einstein called one of the two infinite things. Your selection of Einstein quotes intuitively ring true to me, for whatever that’s worth. I know it isn’t easy to choose a few quotes that represent the scope of the man’s genius, but my affinity tends toward the ones about “imagination” vis a vis “logic,” “the sacred gift of intuition,” “a holy curiosity,” and “a higher plane of knowledge,” Not to mention “the laughter of the gods.” Be that as it may, thanks for your good works, and Happy New Year!
And a Happy New Year to you too, my friend. (I’m afraid I don’t know your name.)

“I must be willing to give up what I am in order to become what I will be.” That’s the thing that Christ has been drilling into me (albeit lovingly and sometimes gently) in the last eleven months. He must increase, I must decrease. I am not my own.
Amen, Jeff. This life is but a training period.
You always post the best quotes. They grease my mental gears.
Delighted to hear that, Ken.
Great thoughts!
So true every one of them
👍
