I love sculptures, classical, modern, miniature, monumental, and most of all those with a unique perspective: Witty or serious. Ageless or temporary. Solitary or interactive, especially interactive – I love sculptures that invite us in, directly or indirectly, that make us a part of their composition. Here are 50 pieces that do just that.

“Stones dream of shapes they might become. The sculptor has but to listen.”
~Thurin-Jon
“Let the stone be what it wants to be. You can’t control everything, you know.”
~Danika Stone
“If water could be shaped like clay, then swimming ducks would be master sculptors. If I were to commission a statue of myself, I’d hire splashing ducks at play.”
~Jarod Kintz
“Artists are low key astronauts. Instead of going to the moon, they sit back in their studio and make the moon.”
~Michael Bassey Johnson
“Your life is a sculpture, every day chip away.”
~J.R. Rim
“You are God’s chisel. It is you He uses to create masterpieces.”
~Matshona Dhliwayo
‘I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.”

The picture of the rock man, “Weight of Grief” is a photo of it outside the art museum here in my city!
It’s a powerful piece, isn’t it, Andrew.
It is. In person even more so.
Wow so many amazing sculptures! The one that is 6th from the bottom is huge!! Wonder where that is?
It looks like its higher than the clouds
It’s in Sendai, Japan, 330′ tall. It was the tallest statue in the world when it was completed in 1991, but is now tied for 5th place.
Wow!!! I need to show this to my youngest son. He knows alot about tallest mountains, buildings, and such. Wouldn’t surprise me if he already heard of this. 😁 But if he hasn’t then I can act like I know more than him. Hahaha.
;>)
Fr*kn awesome!
Some amazing, some creepy but I especially like the last one. I would love to know what our forefathers think of what we have done with their dream.
hahaha; a brilliant compilation 🙂
Thank you, John. I do enjoy curating these Friday photoblogs.
I love Jason deCaires Taylor’s underwater work.
Have you seen it as a scuba diver, Hank?
Yes, I’ve visited/dived his installations in Grenada and in Mexico. I’ll share some images later today or tomorrow.
Awesome!
Love this quote, think I will use it… “You are God’s chisel. It is you He uses to create masterpieces.”
These really are amazing.
These are great, Mitch. My favorite? The Beatles in Liverpool.
Do you mean this one, Nancy? First I’d heard about it. I had to look it up! https://www.flickr.com/photos/33093362@N03/24724881533
That’s the one! Isn’t it FAB? Can you imagine walking down the road and seeing these four directly ahead of you? Get the camera ready! Versions of this sculpture and many different ones can be see all over the world from Liverpool to Cuba to Texas and many points in between. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was one on the moon! 🌝 Totally deserving. It’s only love! ✌🏼❤️ 🪲 🪲 🪲 🪲
Beatlemania lives! ;>) I never screamed, but they had a huge impact on me as a songwriter. So, yeah, Beatles forever!
I was able to see The Beatles at Shea Stadium in 1965 and I’m sure I screamed enough for both us! 😎 🤣
Wow!
That first one is hard to beat, but then the little boy trying to help the bronze bunny is equally charming. For beauty, I’d vote for the amazing topiaries, and for humor: the three surfin’ mamas. You collected such a plethora of medium and subject matter with these statues. Mitch. Great fun to peruse on a Saturday afternoon!
Glad you enjoyed it, Nancy, and I appreciate your best-in-class awards! ;>)
Mitch, Thank you for these! I forwarded your post to my college roommate who had an amazing talent for exquisite sculpture! I really enjoyed these. Thank you! Ann Miko
My pleasure, Ann.

I kinda want to drive off in that orange bus sculpture …
Yes, and who knows, you might even meet Totoro along the way!
