Love absorbs the suffering caused by power. This is such a great point by Phillip Yancey. Any of us could be on either side of this equation at some point. This certainly makes me want to be more merciful.

I love the verse, and the idea behind it, however, I have a question about the Yancy quote in the picture. Is he saying that God gave up His power?

No, I believe he’s saying that God’s love, in this singular moment, absorbed all of the negative effects that can be caused by power, Jimmy. It’s actually a pretty multi-layered statement, one worth meditating on.
