“Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his love for us in that, while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Well, those aren’t the actual words of the verse, but they’re pretty close to what it means. It says, “Since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from wrath through Him!”

you didn’t add verse 9 in the 1st place

That’s because I only wanted to quote verses 7 and 8, Rudy. But you mentioned verse 9, so I told you what it said.

I’m not sure what you mean, Rudy. There are no missing verses. Are you thinking in terms of numbers or math?

I don’t usually know what you mean, Rudy. A saw your answer to my question in another place about 39 and 51 being the numbers for Houston stations. But I didn’t know that, because that only means something to you, not me.

Love Phillip Yancey. Great Quote

Love absorbs the suffering caused by power. This is such a great point by Phillip Yancey. Any of us could be on either side of this equation at some point. This certainly makes me want to be more merciful.

Yes, and well said, David.

I love the verse, and the idea behind it, however, I have a question about the Yancy quote in the picture. Is he saying that God gave up His power?

No, I believe he’s saying that God’s love, in this singular moment, absorbed all of the negative effects that can be caused by power, Jimmy. It’s actually a pretty multi-layered statement, one worth meditating on.

That makes a bit more sense. I was a bit confused by the phrasing.

Amen! And Christ’s suffering cannot be overemphasized. It was excruciating. Unspeakable.

Great quotes here. But I might add, only God can ’empower’ you to love like that.
