Thought for the Week
The best way to deal with people is to remember they’re just people. Forgive them that (and yourself in the bargain) and you’ll at least be headed in the right direction. Oh, and one other thing: you’ll need to do it over and over again for the rest of your life. Because people will just be people for as long as you live. And probably even after that.
“I love mankind…it’s people I can’t stand!!” ~Charles M. Schulz
“Crocodiles are easy. They try to kill and eat you. People are harder. Sometimes they pretend to be your friend first.” ~Steve Irwin
“The reason there are so many stupid people is it’s illegal to kill them.” ~John Wayne
“I do not want people to be very agreeable, as it saves me the trouble of liking them.” ~Jane Austen
“The more I learn about people, the more I like my dog.” ~Mark Twain
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” ~Romans 3:23
“Do not be angry that you cannot make others as you wish them to be, since you cannot make yourself as you wish to be.” ~Thomas á Kempis
“People can cry much easier than they can change.” ~James Baldwin
“Maybe ever’body in the whole damn world is scared of each other.” ~John Steinbeck
“Nobody looks like what they really are on the inside. You don’t. I don’t. People are much more complicated than that. It’s true of everybody.” ~Neil Gaiman
“You should never hate anyone, even your worst enemies. Everyone has something good about them. You have to find the redeeming quality and love the person for that.” ~Jeannette Walls
“I think there’s just one kind of folks. Folks.” ~Harper Lee

I think I need to read this today! 💞

One of my favorite quotes is by the late troubadour, Gamble Rogers: “ Never blame a man for being human unless he makes a habit of it.”

Somehow the picture spoke to me on the metaphorical level. Or I just liked it. ;>)

The image speaks to me too as a metaphor. Articulating why would be too big a project for now.
I doubt that there are many more obvious images that would not be too limited in the foibles they depict. Igor Zakowski created the only one that comes to mind:

This post was great! I needed to be reminded that people will be people and nothing should surprise me, yet I let it from time to time.

I love the sarcasm in many of the quotes. So true!

The model for people is the same as it was from the time of the garden. We’re programmed to keep doing the same thing over and over and over. We’re not like iPhones; there’s always anther upgrade coming.

Much food for thought in these quotes!

I think many of these quotes are just plain common sense (or funny in a profound kind of way). But all of them are a wonderful reminder of how much we are all alike…because we all need forgiveness!

I can’t resist… your comment “I think many of these quotes are just plain common sense (or funny in a profound kind of way).”
You bet! They are funny in a profound kind of way, but out of all the senses, common sense is the least common of all the senses. 🙃
….and I agree, we all fall short and do need forgiveness. ♡

Reblogged this on Jeanne's Journey and commented:
This blog came across my feed today and I wanted to share it. I think it contains thoughts that we all KNOW to be true (or funny). But I also think sometimes a reminder can be like a kick-in-the-pants…it can get your attention when you most need it. Enjoy…and thank you to Mitch Teemley for this blog post!

I’m not sure which quote I like most. I laughed at the Steve Irwin comment, but I think I’ve said something very similar to the John Wayne quote on many occasions.

The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them.
To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it.
To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.
To summarize the summary of the summary: people are a problem.

My problem is that I have high expectations of people when I meet them, then eventually I become dissappointed. My husband tells me to set my sights in the dirt and you won’t be disappointed. That seemed rather harsh to me, because I am an encourager. But I’ve lived too long and have come to realize he is right. I can always expect the worst and hope for the best though. Sometimes I’m surprised and delighted at the least expected moment when I expected the worst, that person had just made my day. God is full of surprises.
By the way, I enjoyed the quotes. Steve Irwins hit home, I laughed at John Wayne’s, agree with Romans 3:23, and especially enjoyed the quotes of Thomas á Kempis and Jeannette Walls.
Thank you for sharing. ♡

While some of the quotes are old friends, others are new friends. The quotes by Irwin and Kempis were new to me but seem like old friends now.
