Dozens of men come forward during the invitation led by Roosevelt Walker, Faith United Church, Nashville, TN, to commit and rededicate their lives to Jesus Christ, and to being “the man” in their home churches and communities. The “Be The Man” conference held May 8-9, 2009, brought over 450 men to the LifeWay Ridgecrest Conference Center near Asheville, NC.
“The perfect church service would be one we were almost unaware of; our attention would have been on God.” ~C.S. Lewis
“I will give them a heart to know Me, that I am the LORD. They will be My people, and I will be their God, for they will return to Me with all their heart.”
~Jeremiah 24:7

Looks interesting but I am not seeing the link which tells the rest of the story. I do love the quote by Lewis. Have a blessed Sunday Mitch.

I think he might mean actual hyperlink to a story? It starts out as “Dozens of men come forward” but when you click on your post, it doesn’t show this.

Ah, maybe so. Unfortunately, I don’t have that info. I found the image online, and that was embedded as the jpeg’s title.

Hey, SCREEN WRITER!
I have an idea for a Christmas film for you. Look at all the Christmas movies (except Die Hard) and what is the plot? How to SAVE Christmas! Over and over again, the Grinch steals Christmas (but he doesn’t), the Kranks, the Santa Clause franchise, Christmas Story… even some of the monstrosities where Santa becomes a gun-wielding protector of innocents from drug bosses.
Could you write one where Christmas SAVES US? We, as humans, tend to make the holidays (Holy Days you idiots!) all about us saving the day. And the point of Christmas is that GOD saves the day. Get your little motor running and maybe, in a couple of years we could have an ACTUAL Christmas Movie.

YES! Do it, Mitch! I agree, Rebecca, we humans have a tendency to make it all about us. And those movies really don’t understand what Christmas is really celebrating – except maybe the Grinch, who found out he COULDN’T “steal” Christmas. 😉

Rebecca and Annie, great point. I do have a treatment for a film or possible musical along those lines. It’s a three-protagonist dramedy inspired by several O. Henry stories.

What O Henry stories besides “Gift of the Magi”?

One you may be familiar with, “The Last Leaf.” The other two are not as well known.

Hmm, so much for theatrical “worship teams?” 😉

This is beautiful! Also, you captured one of my favorite verses. 😃 Some say the turning point from the OT to the NT came just a few chapters later (31:31-34)… Where He speaks of a new covenant, whereby the law will be placed in their hearts instead of on tables of stone. I LOVE how just before that, He set the stage in the verse you mentioned- by giving them a heart to know Him. So amazing. 😊

I love the C.S. Lewis quote. That IS the whole point after all, isn’t it?
Thanks for this great reminder, Mitch.

Indeed, Russell, and it also sounds, not coincidentally, like descriptions of heaven.

With our focus on God, in great intimacy and worship as our all, everything else fades!

That is why I love the traditional Latin Mass. You lose yourself in worship.
