Creativity is scary, confusing, messy, fraught with mistakes…and what you were made for.
“Anxiety is the handmaiden of creativity.” ~T. S. Eliot
“Creativity takes courage.” ~Henri Matisse
“Creativity–like human life itself–begins in darkness. Creativity is always a leap of faith. You’re faced with a blank page, blank easel, or an empty stage.” ~Julia Cameron
“The poet’s eye, in a fine frenzy rolling, doth glance from heaven to Earth, from Earth to heaven; and as imagination bodies forth the forms of things unknown, the poet’s pen turns them to shape, and gives to airy nothing a local habitation and a name.” ~William Shakespeare
“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.” (See God’s creation of humans below. ;>) ~Scott Adams
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1) “And then he created humans in his own image.” (Genesis 1:27)
“Creativity is not a talent, it’s a way of operating.” ~John Cleese
Great collection of quotes, Mitch. I once knew a few but have forgotten them, but one I hope to never forget was made by my brother — “I forget if I remember that or not!” Been busy working on a book lately so not much blogging. Never thought I would ever run out of things to say until I began the book of memories. Maybe some day I’ll share some of that but just not sure anyone sane would want to read them.
I enjoyed the quotes… partly because my son and I have started a podcast titled The Creative Moment (6 episodes so far). We discus creativity in our lives. My son is a photographer and I am a writer (you know that). So the quotes just hit on some of the things we have talked about. Fun post!
As long as one isn’t making the same mistakes over and over 🙂 Then that’s called a decision.

Great quotes! I’ve always found my connection with God is stronger when I’m creating something.

Me too, Andrew. Your comment makes me think of that famous line from ‘Chariots of Fire,’ “When I run, I can feel His pleasure.”

Maybe I have (in context of the play on stage—I just looked it up), but it didn’t stick.

If it brings pleasure to you, it’ll likely do so for others.

I have never heard of Scott Adams, but I love the quote. It reminds me of Michaelangelo chipping away all the marble to reveal the Pieta underneath.

I see the parallel, Pete. Scott Adams is the creator of the Dilbert comic strip.
