A Forever-Life

The Son of Man

I found a friendly neighborhood tom cat picking at a dead bunny (we always look forward to our new brood of wild bunnies each spring). Heartbroken, I buried the remains. It’s as if God were continually reminding us, “Don’t get used to this life — it’s temporary — but remember, I can give you one that will last forever!” (John 11:25) And now, in this season of Advent, as we his followers anticipate the birth of “the lamb of God,” we are also conscious of the fact that this innocent child was the One “born to die” so that we might have that forever-life.

He is here,

God with us!

He is not here,

He is risen!

  1. Good Sunday afternoon to you Mitch. Forgive what may be a dumb question, but…

Ever wonder what would’ve happened to humanity if, instead of crucifying Jesus, the folks of that ancient time, had warmly welcomed him into their lives?

Many did, but not all, and the message is, “For God so love the world,” not just those who gladly accepted his love.

Not to mention, he explicitly said he came to lay down his life as a ransom.. I think the sacrificial nature of his love is not emphasized enough, to the point where people see his death as a sad tragedy that shouldn’t have happened as opposed to the very sacrifice he came to make.

    • We would be up a creek without a paddle, our sins still not paid for and no way to do it ourselves. (“Just sayin’…” 😉 )

      • When I say welcoming Jesus, I mean in our heads and hearts (no questions asked) which, at least in theory, would result in our leading far less sinful lives. With our moral compasses aligned more properly / our being on autopilot, that ol’ outmoded paddle, you speak of, wouldn’t be getting as much wear and tear. (“Just sayin’…” 😉 )
