To paraphrase the quintessential 19th Century hipster, Mark Twain, “Reports of the death of the hipster have been greatly exaggerated.” They’ve always been with us, they’re just “evolving” (how hip is that?), from Babel to Bauhaus, Beatnik to Hippie, Grunge to Hipster, Hipster to, well whatever’s next: Yuccie (hoodies, oversized mustaches, making money), Cutester (self-explanatory), Soft Grunger, or the ultimate in hipness, Normcore–ironically normal, which makes you hardcore! So here’s to a Happy Holiday season–because what could be more Hardcore Normal than that?
I was “Normcore’ before it was a thing, I think.

I don’t get the Yuccies. Not hip in my book–but I’m old and unhip.

It’s supposed to stand for Young Urban Creative, but it’s also sort of reference to blending the hipster and more professional yuppie looks, i.e. ready to make a living (their way).

I would love to respond to this post by saying, “Far out!” But I worry it would reveal the depth of my un-hipness.
Does “groovy” work?

Not quite, Russ. ;>) But there’s also a growing neo-Hippie scene, so you could be tre avant-garde in another year or two.

Is being deep and hilarious at the same time considered hip? If so, you are that. Bravo!

Another decent photo gallery, docent Mitch! btw, Hipster Abe is my fave image. Were Lincoln to suddenly appear, today, I cannot help but wonder what words he’d choose to express his dismay re racial inequality/injustice.
