Thank you for this. My husband is an Air Force Vietnam veteran. My dad and 8 uncles served in WWII (three of them lost their lives), half a dozen great uncles served in WW!.

That’s quite a legacy, Joy.

I didn’t realize it until I got to thinking about it! Hubs is off for a free Applebees lunch with another retired Air Traffic Controller, also trained by the Air Force. Genesis 50:20

Mitch, I stand with you in honor of our servicemen/women who have sacrificed for our freedoms. It saddens me, as I write about “fighting with faith”, to see disrespect, disregard, and dishonor for all that OTHERS have done to PRESERVE our rights.God bless us.Personally, I have two sons in the Air Force. They’re not on the front line, and for that I’m grateful. May we humans, young and old, truly understand the costs. Peace and blessings to you, Mitch.

I love Maya Angelo’s quote. It’s so true. Without faith we can only be loving (or patient, or generous, or truthful, or …) until having those virtues means taking a risk..

On behalf of the veterans reading your tribute, allow me to say “thanks” for your expression of appreciation. Serving in the armed forces is regarded by most vets–this one included–as a great privilege.

Thanks for this Mitch. I was listening to “Fresh Air” today. The guest (I can’t remember his name) , a former decorated Marine in Fallujah, said something I appreciate. Bravery is not a feeling. Fear is a feeling. Bravery is acting no matter how bad the fear,,,

Another great post and due honor to veterans.
Great quotes, Maya Angelou reminds me of Winston Churchill’s,
“Courage is the first of human qualities because it is the quality that guarantees all the others.”
And we surely need more!
