Shine Bright

“Let your light so shine before others, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” ~Matthew 5:16

My Featured Blogger this week is Gina Cash of On Scripture. Gina, who shares this site with her sister Lisa, describes herself as “a seeker of truth” who is “Berean by nature.” The Bereans, you may recall, are described in Acts 17:11 as “noble-minded” seekers who “received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures daily to see if these teachings were true.” Visit Gina at On Scripture and you’ll soon discover how aptly she has adopted the term.

“Don’t shine so that others can see you. Shine so that through you, others can see Him.”
~ C. S. Lewis

We live in a time where letting your light shine on yourself has become an art form. Selfies, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, etc., etc…. You get the idea. So many people today get their self-esteem from how many people like their selfies and social media representations of themselves. Then there is the uniquely 21st century “humblebrag” (an oxymoron if ever there was one) to surreptitiously shine the light on yourself. (Insert eye roll here!)

C. S. Lewis understood that this is not what Jesus meant when He taught His disciples to let our good works be the light that shines upon our Father in heaven—who gives us the grace and ability to accomplish those good works.

So be the light that shines on God—not on yourself.

Live it out this week. Look for ways to shine the light on God and on others. And always give glory to God for the things that He accomplishes through you.

Father, teach us to always shine the light on You and on Christ as we live our lives for You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. I haven’t heard of “humblebrag.” Is that another way of saying “false modesty”?

💜 My “Light Glorifies” Goddess, Mother Nature 👩 Here on Earth EveryOne; the Elderly White Man in “Heaven” who has a Long, White Beard is Really Lazy just like Most Men who ARE in “Gods” Image…of course, if YOU!!! Create SomeThing as Complex as Our Planet in Six Days then Rest on The Seventh it’s Obviously a Shoddy Job; then “God” is Too Ashamed and Lazy To Do AnyThing about FIXING!!! It Up…so Goddess, Mother Nature 👩 , Picks Up The Reigns; then SHE!!! Does The Right THING!!! ergo, please Don’t DisRespect YOUR!!! Mother by Giving The “Father” ALL of that UnDeserved Credit while Entertaining an UnCertain Future in Hell, Purgatory or Paradise EveryBody, YOU!!! Deserve MORE!!!

And why is it your think I follow blindly? Btw, “Christianity” is the common term for the teachings of Jesus, and so, in that sense, Jesus was not only a Christian (“Christ-like”), but the first and only perfect Christian who ever lived.

The light of God exists in every creation. Man probably loses its glow through his many actions. One should attempt in keeping that light bright within us so much that other’s can also find their way in that light.Amen🙏

    Hi Mitch,

That is a battle in our culture, right? In lots of ways the Lord is working hard to humble America believers. That makes the pruning process even more important because maybe it’s too much about me and not Jesus.

    In Christ,

    Gary
