Today is Independence Day in my country. I’m proud of this country and of the freedoms its founders proclaimed. But I’m under no delusion that it can grant me the kind of freedom for which my soul truly hungers. Indeed, that kind of freedom can only by granted by the author of freedom itself. And that kind of freedom comes not from independence but, ironically, from recognizing my profound dependence upon the One who both created me and “in whom I live and move and have my being” (Acts 17:28).
“For He has humbled you, and in your hunger given you manna to eat, which neither you nor your ancestors knew, so you might understand that you do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of your Creator.” ~Deuteronomy 8:3

Dang, that’s an excellent saying you got there, Mitch. Simple, memorable, seemingly paradoxical yet true, and even poetic!

The “poetic” part happened because “thee” rhymed with free, so I went ahead and gave it the full Elizabethan touch.

The book of Acts doesn’t have that many chapters, Rudy. Also, there’s nothing about “monkey paths” in Acts, or anywhere else in the Bible. I don’t really understand why you make up Bible verses. Is it a game?

Not really, Rudy. Deuteronomy 33:3 doesn’t say that.

? Actually, it’s still daylight in the U.S. right now, Tega, so fireworks aren’t due for another couple of hours.

Happy belated Independence dayβi don’t even know if there’s anything like that ππ€·.
But please treasure that which you have (Independence) and appreciate it. You know my country got Independence in April 1968 but its citizens are now against being ruled by a King and are fighting for democracy. It’s all a huge mess with almost everything coming to a halt. I wonder if this fight is worth itπ€·
