Everything You Never Needed to Know About Me

Getting Ready to Go to the Prom” (my first lead role in a movie), shot by the illustrious Kathy’s Mom.

In my early blogging days, when I still posted by telegraph, I regularly responded to Blogger Award invitations. I don’t do those anymore, preferring nowadays to cheer on new bloggers. However, since I normally do My Real Memoir posts on Tuesdays, and since I’m on location shooting a film this week, here are a few of my “tell us about yourself” responses to one of those early Blogger Awards. Because, of course, everyone wants to know everything there is to know about me. Right? (Cue throat-clearing.)

  • My name, according to one source, means “little loaf of bread.”

  • I’m an only child and founder of The International Association for Only Children Who Talk Nonstop About Themselves (also its only member).

  • I have ADHD and am also the founder of People With ADHD United to Hey What’s That Over There?

  • I’m a writer, filmmaker, actor, composer; I’ve even been a dancer (briefly). My high school career counselor looked at my SATs and said, “Go into any of the arts–just stay away from math.”

  • My childhood paper route remains the longest job I’ve ever had.

  • I’ve made a living as a paperboy, musician, actor, mime, comedian, teacher, preacher, writer, encyclopedia salesman, and filmmaker.

  • My rock group The Daily Planet once beat Steven Seagal‘s group in a high school battle of the bands. Take that, Steven. Hi-yah!

  • I once visited my uncle Frank, a cinematographer at Disney Studios, while he was shooting a movie called Tron, and thought, “Hmm, computer animation? That might just work.”

  • I used to go by the nickname “Og,” and called my first apartment Og Hollow, until a Swedish guy asked me why I’d named it “Eye Socket.” Og Hollow is now my music publishing name (Eye Socket was already taken).

  • I have never been a pipe fitter or a gigolo.

  • This space for rent.

  • Question: What do you want to improve about your blog? Answer: Me.

  1. LOL! Well, Og, you’re not the only member of IAOCWTNAT, but you’re definitely the most talented!

  2. Sideburns! Our son is an only whose parents are both first-borns. (I’ve apologized.) He’s thanked me for taking him to see “Tron.” (He’s 46.)

Very interesting snapshot! I actually was kind of interested. You and I only have one point of intersection on our resumes, but we do share several personal adjectives: “Sinner,” “Forgiven,” and “Child of God,” come most immediately to mind.

  7. How much is the rent, Og?

I googled ‘AHD’. This is what I found:
What does AHD stand for in medical terms?
Alveolar hydatid disease: Abbreviated AHD. A parasitic disease caused by the larval stage of a microscopic tapeworm Echinococcus multilocularis. AHD is found worldwide, mostly in northern latitudes.

    You have TAPEWORMS? EWWWWWW!!!!

  14. LOVED that prom video! Made me laugh out loud, which of course woke both my dogs from their slumber and their confusion made me laugh more. You’d think they’d be used to this weird owner of theirs by now 😛
Great post! Thank you for all the smiles and laughter.

  16. I love all the tid-bits. I think we are naturally nosy but some of us find it best not to pry. Video was quite entertaining. Thanks for sharing the fun.

Love your prom night video, Mitch! It’s in excellent condition! So you graduated in ’65? I have 3 much older birth family *full* siblings whom I found in 2005, and 2 of them, my brothers Crys and Robin, graduated in ’62 and ’65 in Huntington, WV! (I was born in ’61 and placed for adoption by our mother, who had conceived me with our father, whom she’d divorced a year before my conception … such a long, complicated story!) Anyway, thanks for sharing the great video! Love your posts! 🙂

Thanks, and yes, that is a complicated story (Chris?)! I graduated in 1968, btw.

Ahh, OK. You are just a baby! 😉 My name is Frank, although sometimes people call me Chris, lol. My birth family siblings are Crys, Robin (who passed away at age 61 in 2009) and our sister Terry. They were born in 1944, 1947 and 1954, respectively. They were thrilled when I found them, because they thought I had died in childbirth, since our mother said she had “lost” the baby after my birth in ’61. Crys and I even share a birthday — on 2/28, he’ll be 79 and I’ll be 62! 🙂

Ah, got it, bad guess on my part (I thought your handle might be “f-chris-t-lieb”). And, yep, I’m a mere whippersnapper. Good to meet you, Frank!
