Ideas Are Only Seeds

Farmer's hand watering a young plant

Thought for the Week

“Like every book I never wrote, it is by far the best book I have ever written.” ~G.K. Chesterton

In nature, 99% of seeds never germinate, and of those, owing to poor conditions, less than 1% survive. That means only about 1 in 10,000 seeds actually becomes a living plant, of which roughly 1 in 10 truly thrives. Result? About 1 out of every 100,000 seeds actually fulfills its purpose.

Ideas are the same. Only a tiny percentage of ideas are ever actually planted, watered, pruned, and patiently cared for long enough to bear a bumper crop of fruit.

That means less than 1 out of 100,000 of the world’s greatest masterpieces, scientific breakthroughs, and revolutionary inventions has ever seen the light of day. Will yours be that 1 in 100,000? Remember, ideas are only seeds.

Plant the seed.

    Hi Mitch,

This is a great reminder in my prayer time. One great idea can take time to do well. I see that as I look at all the possibilities and seeing what the Lord wants to use. Have a great creative week. Hope the movie process is moving forward.

    Thank you,

    Gary

  3. This post made me really reflect on what I am doing with life. I am an author/coach and PhD student. I have just retired from 13 years of addiction counseling. Life can be focused so much that we forget those seeds we have not yet planted. I hope and pray that all of your seeds get planted and flourish. Blessings and honor, Christine C Sponsler

A great thought Mitch. After seeing trees growing out of rocks in the wilderness, and a small root crack a house size rock in half if it can get in a crevice, I believe the saying “Never underestimate the power of a seed”

Since my ideas come from a mustard seed kingdom I am certain they will do what God has purposed them to do. Great post! Thanks for the reminder—Blessings and Peace.

That is soooooo true. It is really important not to give up, but sometimes it is hard. After meeting one setback after another…

This is why a watermelon or a cantaloupe has so many seeds. LOL. I’ve never thought about the survival rate.
