“Once, all of the villagers decided to pray for rain. On the day of prayer all the people gathered, but only one boy came with an umbrella. That is faith.” ~Unknown
One of the least understood teachings of the Bible is the relationship between faith and good deeds (or “works”). Yes, faith is trusting God for his free gift of salvation (we truly can’t save ourselves). But faith without deeds is simply not real faith. Or at best it’s an infantile faith. Which is fine–at first–but we’re not meant to stay infants. God is in the business of making disciples, mature followers who walk by faith, and in the process, show a desperate world how it’s done.
Nice post..thanks for sharing…

Let me see how you act and I’ll tell you what you believe and where your faith is – something I pass on to the folks I mentor. Thanks, Mitch. Great post!

Love this Mitch … God’s Word … Always true. Always wise. Always loving. … But not always comfortable.

I had this strong sense to do something very uncomfortable today … it was a very difficult thing. But that VERY verse you quoted in James kept coming to mind this morning. I finally did what I was supposed to do. (I had memorized big parts of the book of James … another practice I advice against, if you don’t ever want to hear the voice of God). … Your post felt like a gentle confirmation. and now I am in tears

Not to long ago my friend told me to watch the move “Faith Like Potatoes”. It was an excellent movie about faith!

This verse always makes me think of going to a doctor for advice. You can claim to have faith in the doctor, but if you don’t follow his/her advice, you don’t really.

I try to carry my umbrella open and upside down so I catch any blessings God intends for me.
