Healing River is Here!

A Filmmaker’s Journal

Healing River PosterHealing River, a feature film I wrote and directed (originally titled Over-the-Rhine) has just premiered on Amazon Prime–and right on time for your weekend Movie Night! (Even if you’re not a Prime member you can watch it by clicking on the link below.) Winner of over twenty film festival awards, nominations and selections, Healing River is a powerful inspirational story about “forgiving the unforgivable.” You can watch the trailer now, and then watch (or order a copy of) the movie by clicking here.

Two Ways You Can Help Promote Healing River:

  1. Watch it, and then take a moment to review it on Amazon (they promote and recommend films that have lots of reviews).

  2. Rate it on IMDb. We were attacked by internet trolls (who hadn’t even seen the movie) and are working to counter the fake-rating they gave it!

I and Healing River’s other creators believe in what it has to say and would like as many people as possible to see it.ย  “Blessings till it hurts!”ย  ~Mitch

Just got done watching the movie. It’s a beautiful summation of all the themes you’ve shared here on your blog, Mitch. I’m very glad you found an opportunity to express your heart in such a creative and moving way.

I won’t go into a full-blown review, and certainly won’t spoil anything, but here’s just a couple notes of what stood out most to me:
Rupert Spraul blew me away with his performance on multiple occasions, I was shocked to see how short his film history was on iMDB after seeing that performance.
I was incredibly moved by the song Impossible Love. I listened to it when you shared it in a previous blog post, but felt it so much more with how you wove it into the story. It was, simply, beautiful.

Also, Sgt. Early might be the greatest thing I’ve witnessed all year ๐Ÿ˜€

Abe, I’m delighted at your response! Rupert is one of those most gifted young actors I’ve ever worked with Healing River was his first film, but he’s very active in theatre.. And Mike Hall (Sgt. Early) is quite the comedic genius. Both were a joy to direct. Would you be willing to do an Amazon review? It can have a real impact on the film’s future.

      • Abe Austin says:

Actually I did leave one, at the same time that I left my comment here. But instead of posting it right away I got the following message from Amazon

“We are processing your review. This may take several days, so we appreciate your patience. We will notify you when this is complete.”

I’ve never seen that when leaving a review on Amazon before. Any idea why it’s not being sent right through?

      • mitchteemley says:

P.S. I’m doing a post today on the initial reviews the films getting. Do you mind if I quote you?

      • mitchteemley says:

Just saw your comment about Amazon’s “processing” message. No, I don’t know why they did that; other reviews from last night have already shown up.

  20. I will watch it on Prime. So glad it’s on.

Hey folks, may I encourage you to check out my friend Mitch Teemley and give some serious thought about watching his movie this week?

Mitch is a Christian blogger, but he’s also a movie guy – like as in making them, not just watching (like the rest of us). I’m going to watch it this week with my wife, then I’m going to share my honest thoughts about it.

Let’s all watch it and give God the glory for what he’s doing through our brother in Christ, Mitch!

God bless you, my friend! Maybe He will even throw in an Oscar ๐Ÿ™‚

Mitch you done the world a huge favour by making such a film. For all people. I’m dealing with the exact same scenario right now. Death is so painful but won’t bring our loved ones back. I’m thanking you in a very personal level.

  32. Just watched the movie with my husband, and we loved it! This movie has great acting and a dramatic story that kept our attention throughout. We enjoyed the music too! You are a very talented man, Mitch! And God will use this movie to help people and teach about forgiveness. I reviewed it on Amazon (5 star) and I will share about it on social media. I hope tons of people watch it!

I’m so glad you enjoyed it, Janet! If you get a chance, please jump over to IMDb and rate it there, as well. We were attacked by internet trolls who gave it the lowest rating possible, even though they haven’t seen it, and are counting on people who have to correct the ranking. Blessings.

  33. I know people will lecture me for saying this but there are some things that I wont forgive: just my
opinion but some people don’t deserve forgiveness: I will share the trailer and watch the movie. thankyou — I decide that I was an atheist in my sixties but still have an open mind

Thank you for your honest thoughts, Clair. I understand (I used to be an atheist myself). And thank you for your willingness to share the trailer and watch the film, anyway!

Jesus’ challenge to love our enemies has never been embraced by most people (even those in the church). And indeed the core doctrine of grace, unmerited favor toward those who do not deserve it–which is everyone on the planet–is the most revolutionary idea ever put forth. I believe it can, and one day will, heal our broken world, but not without the radical sacrifice and transformation of many lives. Peace. ~Mitch

I totally enjoyed โ€œHealing Riverโ€. It is a powerful, intense movie. The acting was superb. The meaning was deep. The music was amazing. What was the name of the last song? I would really like To download if it is available. Great job!

I’m so glad you were move by the film, Teri! The last song is entitled “Impossible Love.” It’s not available online yet, but we’ll be uploading the songs from the movie score to online sources ASAP. I’ll keep my readers posted.

Also, may I encourage you to leave a brief review at Amazon? You could simply copy and paste the words you wrote here, if you like. (The more reviews a movie receives, the more they recommend it). You can also rate it on IMDb (link below). We’re working to counter fake ratings left by internet trolls (who hadn’t actually seen the movie). Thanks and blessings! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5848326/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_2
