Loved these, Mitch! The final Socrates quote reminded me of this one from Kurt Vonnegut: “We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.”
…Which reminded me of this from Robert Louis Stevenson: “Sooner or later everyone sits down to a banquet of consequences.”

“If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything.”~Mark Twain.
When you realize that Memory is the 2nd thing to go as you age…(I’m not recalling what the first thing is) truth is probably a better path to take.

From all the wise words, I surprise myself by particularly liking the Jodi Picoult quote – so true.

These are great quotes and wise words. Life is so much simpler if we are congruent, transparent and truthful.

Those are all so good and so logical. I had a relative once whom we knew had made something up because others were present at the event being lied about. The lie put this person in the best light, and we could tell she vehemently believed herself. “Why that’s insane! How could y’all believe that it happened that way?”

Have you noticed how many book titles these days are something about lies? Some I’ve read recently are “The Liar’s Daughter,” “Big Little Lies,” and “Good Little Liars,”

William Faulkner says the same in his “Light in August””: “„They say that it is the practiced liar who can deceive. But so often the practiced and chronic liar deceives only himself; it is the man who all his life has been selfconvicted of veracity whose lies find quickest credence.“ Thank you for interesting quotes!
