Beginning Again

Resolution (with apologies to the Beatles):

“You say you made a resolution, well, you know,
We all want to change our ways,
But to really be a resolution, well, you know,
It’s got to last more than ten days.”

Pray. And begin again. If matters–really matters–God will strengthen you. If not, let it go.

begin-again

“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” ~James 1:12

Nice lyrics! I think the problem with resolutions is that by their very nature, they often focus on things we aren’t very good at historically. Think about it. If we were better at eating right, saving money or being kinder, we’d already be doing it and wouldn’t need to resolve to become better at it. They highlight our weaknesses. And that would be great for me if I could make sure God was allowed access to that weaknesses in order for his glory to be demonstrated through his strength. But the second thing I’ve noticed about resolutions is that their success lies in what WE are going to do. But our intentions are always so very good!! I also think it’s important to remember two things: we can always begin again NOW, whenever that happens to be, and failure doesn’t always have to mean starting from scratch.
