Same teachings in my house Mitch.

Even in times of depression, when your gratitude is difficult to dredge-up, it still helps improve your spirits if you count your “blessings,” no matter how difficult your disorder makes that exercise.

Been there. And, yes, it really does.

Amen. I Love “Happiness isn’t necessary for gratitude, gratitude is necessary for happiness.” Hard to live by without practice, but I find the more I practice it the more joy I en-joy.

I don’t know much Mitch, but I do know that gratitude is foundational to a happy life. Even when things aren’t going as planned (or wanted),my wife and I are filled with gratitude for the amazing life (and it’s hardships) that God has blessed us with. Gratitude helped me learn the definition of “enough”. Thanks for the reminder!

My husband has noticed that whatever the situation, most of my prayers consist of thanks. A friend has commented that I’m one of the happiest people she knows … coincidence? 😉

In Jr. high school I listened to a speaker who had worked at the post office over Christmas. They received hundreds of letters to Santa Claus full over I wants. After Christmas, they got one letter thanking Santa. – Thank you for your great essays. Jerry

How illustrative, Jerry. Reminds me of Luke 17:11-19, in which only one of ten miraculously healed lepers returns to thank Jesus.

“It’s a terrible day, thanks be to God.”
It always makes me smile when I think of the gratitude in those words.
Your article reminded me of them. Thank you!
