“Traveling through space and not finding God does not mean that space is empty any more than traveling through my body and not finding me means that I am not here.”

Did you know astronomers now believe there are over two trillion galaxies (not stars, bur galaxies) out there? And God is bigger than all that. No wonder we can’t see him. If it is impossible to see all those galaxies, of course it is impossible to see God. That’s why he had to materialize for a little while in the Garden, and Palestine long ago. At last, we were able to see God and he walked among us.

Love the scripture but don’t understand the quote even after reading again and again.

Basically, I think, Willard is saying that space doesn’t “contain” God. Which, among other things, is why scientists can’t find signs of Him the way they might find, say, signs of water on Mars. God is infinitely larger than His creation.

Yes, I understand that. That’s beautiful. The part I don’t understand is “traveling through your own body and ….” Oh, hey, I’ve got it. Very good.

It reminds me of when God speaks to Job:
[Job 38:1-11 ESV] 1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said: 2 “Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? 3 Dress for action like a man; I will question you, and you make it known to me. 4 “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. 5 Who determined its measurements–surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? 6 On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone, 7 when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God shouted for joy? 8 “Or who shut in the sea with doors when it burst out from the womb, 9 when I made clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling band, 10 and prescribed limits for it and set bars and doors, 11 and said, ‘Thus far shall you come, and no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stayed’?
WOW, but to realize this is the God, creator of the universe, we can’t fathom his being. And yet, He is concerned with my soul. That is breathtaking.
