Outrageous! (Unless, you know, it’s true)

so-i-was-like-im-the-son-of-god-and-they-were-like-no-way-and-then-i-was-like-yahweh

I don’t know who created the above meme, but I love its irreverent reverence. In fact I even LOL’d when I read it (something I rarely do in polite circles). I mean, I’ve been called a liar from time to time, and never once did it mean, “Dude, you’re totally deluded, but you’re still a great moral teacher.” It meant, Run! Always. So, yeah…

Jesus’ claims are truly outrageous (read what he says about himself in the Gospel of John). Unless they’re true. And then, well, OK, they’re still outrageous, but they’re also the most wonderful news we’ll ever hear. Because it means our Creator loves us so much that he chose to personally save us from the most out-of-control, destructive force ever to emerge on our planet–us.

No way? Yahweh. Totally outrageous. Here’s what C. S. Lewis concluded:

“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: ‘I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God.’ That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic—on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg—or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”

We must pray that blinded eyes be opened because, as you say, it is outrageous – truly unbelievable Truth. Thankfully God seeks us. We would never such a story if the source were only man. And yes, I also love the meme.

  4. We live in a world where people do want to identify as poached eggs. Fortunately, biology still applies.

Sometimes it takes a slight sacrilegious remark to turn ahead and make people think. In the scriptures it tells of the religious leader talking to Saul who at the time was bent on destroying the Christian following. He told him that if Jesus was just a teacher or crazy man, this silly Christian thing would soon pass. But if it was driven by God…it would not be stoppable. And it is still with us over 2,000 years later. Must be real…I know it is in my life.

  13. Last year I wrote a book “Was Jesus God?” So many think of Him as a sub-God of some kind.

  14. For, as we are, I am. If there is any question on this subject, one must search for not the words utilized, but the meaning of the word combination. True belief does not have a pin of royalty attached. Just the mere fact that one would be a believer changes the perception of that around them. A believer will emit the need for those they encounter to find the path, then guide them through the journey with compassion.

Those who see Jesus as a great moral teacher, don’t know any better
Operating in mere human wisdom , that is the best they can do
Jesus as deity to mere reasoning is an outrageous claim indeed
That is why Paul wrote , if anyone confess that Jesus is lord and believe in his heart that
God raised him from dead , he shall be saved. Faith and not reasoning can see Christ as he is.The natural man cannot receive the things of God, he does not even know them
