Filling My Glass

wallup.net

Ah, the incessant question:

Is my glass half empty

or half full?

But the real question, I think,

is Who’s filling it?

(or emptying it)

Therefore, I choose to see my glass

(if it’s really even mine)

as neither half empty nor half full,

but as hopefull

No, wait—

back behind that, I think,

is the fact that, in order for my glass

to be any kind of full, I must be

prayerfull

And wait—

still further back than that is the fact

that there’s even a glass at all

Which, when I think about it, is

wonderfull

Which leads me, of course, to being

gratefull

And so, I think, it all comes down to this:

If I’m being truthfull

about wanting my glass to be truly full

I must empty it of myself

and make room

for the One who made it

Mitch, thank you for this post. It resonates with the psalmist’s sentiment:
You make known to me the path of life; you fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand (Psalm 16:11)

  17. The condition of the glass is not important. Would not the question be where is that which made the glass appear to be full?
