I love public art! Especially those pieces that catch us off-guard, delight us, or make us think. These public sculptures–in thoroughfares, in forests or along garden paths, some even carved right into the trees and rocks, employing living scenery–do just that!

I kept thinking,”Oh, this is my favorite! No, this is my favorite!” The imagination and skill all these took is beyond my comprehension. And the emotions that each draws from me are priceless.

All are so incredible, and it never ceases to amaze me how the eyes bring the sculptures to life. Best door knob EVER!!!

Incredible! When I first read your title, I thought it said, “Astonishing SCRIPTURES” and I wondered which ones you might choose to call astonishing.

;>) There are even more astonishing scriptures than there are sculptures, I suspect, Russ.

Loved these! Did you write the captions? Very fitting. I have seen pictures of the “homeless Jesus” before – very thought-provoking.

Yes, I did the captions. I’ve been waiting to post some of these for quite a while, especially the “homeless Jesus.” Thought-provoking indeed.

I love these! Where were they taken?

They’re from numerous artists and locations. Unfortunately, I don’t have the information on most of them.

OK, thanks. (Of course, I want to go see in one in person.)

I was going to ask where these were but just read through your comments and it sounds like many of the locations are unknown?!

To me, unfortunately, yes. Next time I’ll work harder at finding info on artists and locations.

Yes, indeed gorgeous and many kinds of sculptures! My favorite one is: “Let me out!”. In Finland we use chain saw when making carvings. We love bears and that is why we have bear carving contests. If You do not mind, I give here the first post of two:

I enjoyed the many incarnations of bear, but I have to count the one playing the accordion as my favorite.
