Unwelcome Stranger

Joey Loper, Doug Evans

Dear friends, this is a bit sardonic. I write in this manner not to trivialize a difficult issue, but to make what I believe is a vital point.

MAN: Judge, I’d like to kill the woman living in my house.
JUDGE: Absolutely not!
MAN: But it’s my house and that makes her my property.
JUDGE: No, it doesn’t!
MAN: But she’s receiving medical treatment in my living room, and can’t be moved until treatment is completed. I don’t want her there, so please let me kill her.
JUDGE: No!
MAN: But she’s my daughter.
JUDGE: Oh, well, why didn’t you say so? Go ahead and kill her, then. Since she’s your daughter that makes her furniture. So it’s not even killing, really, it’s redecorating.

Again, my intention is not to make fun of the issue, but rather the opposite: to point out the tragically absurd logic behind modern reproductive policy.

That said, while I despise the full-term abortion rights laws recently passed in New York, and under consideration in Virginia and elsewhere, I believe there are other concerns that must be addressed, as well. Laws protecting the right-to-life of unborn humans make biological, moral and legal sense. But so do compassionate, putting-our-money-where-our-mouth-is laws protecting those who struggle with unwanted pregnancies. A woman should know that if she needs it, financial, emotional and practical support (adoption, educational services, etc.) will be there for her. Period.

Our laws must protect and provide for both of the human beings involved!

Some of our fellow Americans have gone far from the Holy Spirit. Their hearts are have been hardened as it says in John 12:40 King James Bible. He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. It takes prayer more than anything else, but then standing firm in the kindness, mercy, and love of our Lord Jesus.

If New York law becomes the standard for the U.S., how will we finance the care of thousands of additional children in foster care in the next five years? This does not make me pro or anti abortion, but is a call for some logical, fact-based discussion of the issue.

It terrifies me where logic is running these days. I am reminded of Pilate’s comment to Jesus – “What is truth?” We are so far skewed from real truth.

  5. Absolutely! That’s what crisis pregnancy centers are for. They do great work, and they deserve our support.

  6. I wrote about this recently. I understand there is now a case in NY where a man killed his pregnant girlfriend. Before, he would have been charged both with her death and that of the baby and now that will not be valid. Laws have peripheral consequences. I have wondered how many physicians would follow the law with a full term baby. There would be the possibility of being tried for murder later. There are so many “what ifs.”

  7. Amen to that. I can’t see why these legislators are so blind to the truth of what is considered life and murder of life.

Mitch, I can get behind all of that. Check out Pastor Jeff Durbin of Apologia Church in Tempe, AZ. He has a YouTube channel by the name: Apologia Studios. His congregation posts up outside of abortion clinics, and offers to adopt the babies in an effort to save them from being murdered. They actually have a legal team on standby, and provide this service, and many others, at no charge to the mothers. They have saved dozens of babies. Can you imagine the impact we could have if the whole of the American Church followed their example?

Amen and amen!!! Makes me think of this one comment I heard: how is it that a molecule of water on Mars is “proof of life”, but an unborn baby with hands and feet are just “a bunch of cells”.

  13. Truth is the truth. To see it there must be all the facts to provide clarity. Today we have people that are not able to recognize the truth due to their own stilted opinions that will not recognize the facts.

  14. Excellent metaphor.

Likewise it must be considered that Saudi Embassy (as a womb) where Khashoggi was murdered (aborted) must be unlawful too. Under 45’s watch, self serving condoned behavior.

Same goes for the “cave” (womb) where OBL was murdered (aborted) was unlawful as well. Under 44’s watch and direction. Again, self serving condoned behavior, a grown out of the womb fetus demonized for political convenience.

Not to mention the detrimental deterrent-less death penalty. That is a rant for another time.

Aspects of this will appear in a future post of mine, that I’ve been working on.

Thanks for kicking it in to gear, and with your permission might be able to cite your opening parable as a quote.

Recently broached this topic in a “dark” post “On No Particular Day”

Thanks, Angelo. A couple thoughts: 1) The death penalty is on its way out in the U.S., only practiced in a handful of states now and fading fast, primarily because of errors and injustices in the capital punishment system. 2) Babies are innocents. Osama bin Laden (OBL) was a mass murderer. He was not held in custody and then sentenced to death, but was an enemy combatant (who had repeatedly attacked the U.S.) killed in a raid on his headquarters.

  15. And there are people in this world who cry themselves to sleep because of the lack of a child

Thanks again, Mitch, for a thoughtful post. In addition to protecting “both” of the human beings involved, I know of men who fathered these so-called unwanted babies and later learn–after the fact–that his girlfriend/partner had an abortion and he is devastated. He’s hurt and angry that she would make the decision to get rid of his child. I don’t mean to say that I’m pro abortion or against it. I just want to point out that, even though the father isn’t physically ‘involved,’ the mother and child aren’t the only people who are directly affected.
