Grace 101

“None of us gets paid according to merit, for none of us comes close to satisfying God’s requirements for a perfect life.”  ~Philip Yancey

“We cannot find Him unless we know we need Him.”  ~Thomas Merton

“He has shown you, O mortals, what is good and what He requires of you…”  ~Micah 6:8

Grace 101 title

A snippet of a story I wrote and posted here last spring, Theology 101, about a harsh college professor and his terrified students, was well received, convincing me that it might make a good video. So I assembled a team and shot a 2-minute movie, now titled Grace 101. To watch it, click here.

Blessings till it hurts, Mitch

  1. A one word answer will suffice on judgment day. Great video too! Blessings on you, Mitch.

  3. Very cute Mitch! It’s a simple message, but it cannot be heard or spoken enough. We miss it so often. Unmerited A’s, indeed.

  4. We are loved and accepted by God unconditionally, by faith, and not by works. From my reading of Scripture, however, we are blessed by God when we obey his commands, and do his will.

“And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.” Acts 5:32

Walking in willful and unrepentant sin will result in a loss of the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

  5. Awesome Mitch! As both a professor and a believer, I appreciate how much students need to learn first hand (this includes us!) the power of Grace. Thank you! Smiling because of you. 🙂 🙂

    Hi Mitch,

Great to see one of your features. Great job. I posted it on Facebook. I hope you have time to make more of your stories into short films. Great idea.

    In Christ,

  9. Nice job! I was torn between Grace and Love, but I suppose grace is an offspring of love (but NOT a love child!). Blessings!

  10. I LOVE that verse from Micah – it sums up so beautifully how we should respond to God. Thank you for reminding me of it

Loved this, Mitch. To be honest what caught my eye on this post was the line “None of us gets paid according to merit.” Having worked for a company where I was actually told there was no such thing as a merit raise, I was angered. The end of the video surprised me into a smile and a laugh. So true. Merits do not matter in Christ. It’s all grace. It’s all grace.

Indeed, and a good thing that merits don’t matter, because we’d be sunk in the presence of a perfect God if they did! But “God is love,” as John reminds us, and grace is love in action.
