Reach Out!

Dog and kitten

“Reach out” is the contemporary term for making contact. People don’t “get in touch with” others anymore, they “reach out” to them. There’s something both sweet and desperate about that phrase in this age of disconnection and intolerance. Agreement is good, but not always possible. Understanding is even better, and is always possible–if we’re willing to reach out. As my cat regularly reminds me, There are very few issues that can’t be resolved by touching noses.

“No law or ordinance is mightier than understanding.” ~Plato

In the practice of tolerance, one’s enemy is the best teacher.” ~Dalai Lama

“Son, brother, father, lover, friend. There is room in the heart for all the affections, as there is room in heaven for all the stars.” ~Victor Hugo

“Bear with one another and forgive those who have offended you. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Clothe yourself in love, which is the bond of perfect unity.”

~Colossians 3:13-14

  1. Since this is the second time this sort of thing has happened, I am wondering if just as my computer is sometimes logged into the internet, at times, my mind has logged into a topic which you will post about in your blog a moment afterward. So in the midst of morning writing, I had drawn up a list of people to whom I had not reached out to in a long time, with a little antenna icon next to each name to distinguish it from other writing on the page, then I came to the PC and saw this! You are right, an antenna can imply a big distance, as large ones are used in the search for interstellar life! But getting in touch, that is rarer now, and more of a two-way street, and my too dog often reminds me about the touching of noses. 🙂

“There are very few problems that can’t be resolved by touching noses.”

I think that’s what creative people do in this wonderful world of blogging.
And there’s my tunnel vision in action…that should be:
That’s what people do in this wonderful world.
That’s the world needs more of.
