Chapter Thirteen: Domestic Blitz (Continued)

Previously: In an effort to send the mysterious Objects back to Ismara, Gina and Zack had rolled the heavy toy chest toward her room. But the chest disintegrated in the hallway.

“Zack!” Gina jumped off the chest and prepared to dash down the stairs.

Zack jerked the lock open and slid it out of the wildly rattling hasp. Amazingly, the chest grew silent. He squinted at his sister: her face was a maze of doubt and fear. He shrugged and then slowly lifted the hasp, half expecting the chest to burst open like a torched fireworks stand, but nothing happened. Gina came and stood beside him.

“If we die, I’m going to be so ticked.”
