Perfect Plans

“Without ambition one starts nothing. Without work one finishes nothing. The prize will not be sent to you. You have to win it.”*

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

reaching-for-star-768x1024Just a little Monday guilt for you (you’re welcome). For many of us the hardest part is getting started. Having the perfect plan is lovely, but getting started is even more important. Perfect plans are just squiggly lines (no one can live in a blueprint of a building). To put it another way: you can’t steer a parked car. But a car in motion, well, OK, course corrections are necessary even when you do have a perfect plan. Pilots call it “vector,” the big general direction that gradually narrows like a cone as they move closer to their destination. Sailors call it “tacking,” the zig-zag pattern that eventually gets them to the right port of call. But both know that at some point they have to make a start. So, what are you waiting for?

Get moving!

I’ve set my sights on several stars for 2017, and with Carolyn above, I’m concerned about falling too. Thanks for the kick-start, Mitch; it’s already January 9th. Time to get moving!

  7. Much to my surprise…I think that I might not be afraid of falling. Like in the song…it is all about the climb. At least…that is how I feel at this time in my life! Maybe ten years ago…I would have answered differently.

Fear of failure is what cripple most people. Once we abandon ourselves and passionately pursue our dreams, things will begin to happen because God is able to do exceedingly abundantly more than we can ask or think, according to His power that is at work in us (Eph. 3:20). We already have what we need to succeed within us. As Emerson succinctly summarized it, “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”
