Thanksgiving is Coming!

turkeyThanksgiving is one of America’s favorite days (it’s also celebrated in other countries on other dates). But for many it’s real name should probably be Self-indulgence Day.

So, enjoy, but don’t forget…

To pause and be thankful:

To take a moment to remember your forbears:

And don’t get ahead of yourself:

Have great week, peeps!

  1. These are the times when I wish I was young and living at Mom’s house again. Thanksgiving wasn’t just a holiday, but a project, with menu planning that was guaranteed to generate some saliva glands action. Pies were baked the day before, so the house smelled of apple and pumpkin pies. On that Thursday, Mom always rose while we slept and began roasting the turkey. By the time we were up with the sun, the scents of roasting turkey’s drifted through the house. Then came the other items, with the rolls being baked last, for that final overture to the nose. Meanwhile, we were setting the table, lighting candles, pouring a little wine for ourselves — if we were deemed old enough — while football and parades played on the big Magnavox color console TV. Since this was Pittsburgh, PA, a flinty wintry hue etched the skies, and we usually experienced a few flurries. And as time passed, we would add pulling out a camera, first a Polaroid, and then later, Instamatics and 35mm, to capture the setting and attendees. Now, of course, everyone is whipping out their cell phones ad nauseam.

Nice to have such sweet memories. Thanks for re-kindling them with your post. Happy Thanksgiving.

  4. 1 – Peeps are all occasion treats!
2 – Thanks for the reminder! I have been posting things that I am grateful for on my Facebook page every day in November but, the closer I get to the end of the month, the more forgetful I become. At the beginning of the month I was posting every morning when I got up. The last couple of days I had to hurry to get one in before I fell asleep…I guess we all need a reminder every once in a while.
    Happy Thanksgiving 🙂

Cute post, Mitch. Actually, I think there is a Peep for every major holiday now. It was only a matter of time. ; )

Oh, and we always watch Detroit Lions football on Overindulgence Day. It’s how we get our biggest letdown after all the great food! LOL

  9. Talk about overindulgent. Why just look at that belly of Santa’s. But thanks to this photograph from the time, we can clearly see that due to his tendency to overindulge in eating, Santa has had a weight problem for quite some time now. I’m thinking Santa will see this photo and eat smaller portions this year. Anyway, we’re all going to be able to at least get a good nights sleep this Thanksgiving thanks to tryptophan, so that’s a good thing. A Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Mitch. :O)
