You-nique

I’ve started work on my new novel, Gone Girl on the Train with the Dragon Tattoo. This is a very personal story for me, and I deeply resent any suggestion that it is derivative of other works. Next they’ll be saying that my autobiography, The Diary of Anne Frank, Part Two, lacks authenticity!

originality

Oxford Dictionary: o·rig·i·nal·i·ty [əˌrijəˈnalədē]

  1. Noun: the ability to think independently and creatively:

E.g. “A writer of great originality”

“Sometimes I worry about being a success in a mediocre world.”  ~Lily Tomlin

“It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation.”  ~Herman Melville

“Mistakes are the only universal form of originality.”  ~Mason Cooley

(Hence, the key to success is making original mistakes.)

“If you simply try to tell the truth (without caring twopence how often it has been told before) you will, nine times out of ten, become original without ever having noticed it.”  ~C. S. Lewis

“Be yourself. Everyone else is already taken.” ~Oscar Wilde

You’re an original. Act like it.

  1. This is so weird!! Just yesterday, my siblings and I were joking (after I had spent a good half hour paging through the recent NYT Bestseller list) that someone should write a spoof called something like “Gone Guy on the Monorail with the Lizard Upper Back Tattoo”…
Congratulations on your upcoming release! What with the success in your… ahem… genre, I’m sure it won’t take long before your on the NYT Bestseller lists yourself! 😮 How exciting!!

  7. It’s kinda like God made you and then threw away the mold. Did God do that because you turned out so wonderful or because He didn’t want anymore like you. Gotcha. LOL

  11. Hi, Mitch. If I could trouble you for a moment, would you mind letting me know why you chose to stop following my blog, especially after you’d requested access to my site when it was private.

Have I done something to offend you? If you’d prefer, you can reply to me privately via email. If you would take the time to reply, I’d deeply appreciate the honest feedback. Thanks for your time.
